DSG I: THE FIVE AXIS

Anyone, who had experience with the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 精神障害の診断と統計の手引き), whether it's from your psychology lectures to using it as a clinical psychologist, should know that the DSM is the bible (though some doubted it) for mental disorder diagnosis. One of it's features is that it uses an axes system, where many mental disorders are organized along the 5 different axes.

What I am attempting to do, is to put along, my Mother Monster's compositions, on the 5 axes I suggested below. I will be explaining them in the future, so please stay tuned!!

GAGA FEMINISM: FOLLOW-UP

Yesterday was the first day my Mother Monster had activate her Instagram account (Ladygaga, previously ladygaga1978). Many Monsters were pondering the definition of 1978, some thoughts were that they were random numbers, but why 1978??

Two and a half events, were remarking in the year of 1978. The first event, is that Larry Flynt, the owner of Hustler magazine, that enables millions of males to enjoy themselves, were almost assassinated by a sniper's shot near the county courthouse at Lawrenceville. However, this is only the half event that made up the 2.5 important events.

The other major event was that, Larry Flynt claimed that women, will not act like that they were meat, hanging on the cover of Hustler. Which was a remarking turn around point for feminists to virtually strive or their power. Moreover, considering my Mother Monster as one of the more prevalent and iconic conveyor and promoter of what's termed as Gaga Feminism and Shadow Feminism, my Mother Monster definitely deserves to be it.

The other other event was that, Gianni Versace launched Versace at Italy. This, or not, maybe related to that fact that my Mother Monster had been obsessed on Versace recently. But personally, I prefer she revive her obsession on Alexander McQueen.

This explains why her Instagram account has the year of 1978, why the Versace obsession, why Dot's (Twitter @032886) was the wheelchair display picture (Possibly a parody to David LaChapelle's portrait on my Mother Monster, see below).

BORN THIS WAY: THE PROGRAM

It was a pity that, the #BTWBalls before the Japan legs, in terms of the variety of the merch, is in comparison lower than the later legs of the #BTWBalls. Such as, the most important piece of a concert, the Concert Program.

Though electronic media is prevalent, the existence of Concert Program is not disregarded and is still used in various types of concerts. Therefore, it is worth pondering the actual usage of the Concert Program. In my opinion, the fact that Concert Program still exists, is to enable attendants to remain their beautiful, wonderful episodes of the performance in their mind. Such that to increase one's impact from the concert.

Obviously, the one I have below, is acting as a replenishment of my tragic encounter in early May. However, why should I remain in the past, and why not hoping for the future?

A MINOR: THE BITCH (CON'T)

Before establishing a relationship between the key of A Minor and Mother Monster, let's compare A Minor compositions from the Baroque Era, until the Born This Way Era.

Johann Sebastian Bach had his first Violin Concerto in A Minor. Though classical music analysts and performers suggest a mechanic performance style, the melodic and harmonic aspect itself is able to induce emotional contrasts.

Ludwig Van Beethoven had his most famous violin sonata, the Kreutzer Sonata, in A Minor. Need not me to explain, that Beethoven utilized A Minor in to a level, of divine like, such that it used up all of violin's capability to compete it with piano.

Okay, to Mother Monster, just from Bad Romance, I believe that every Little Monster is able to catch that emotional contrast, both from the chord progressions, melodic movement, questionable poetry, and my Mother Monster's contrasting vocal performance. A MINOR, THE BITCH

A Minor, the fucking simplest key out of Western harmonic structure. It's the fucking key with a key signature of no sharps nor flats. It's the fucking key that you can play all notes (except the leading tone) on the white fucking keys. And, most importantly, it's the fucking key that gives you one of the induced strongest emotions (hence the uncensored obscene terms listed above).

Quoting Wikipedia (again),

Yea, translations...
Charpentier said that about the key "that represents the sadness and tenderness." Mattheson said that the key and "have to lament, dignified, calm personality."
So, #Sadness, #Tenderness, #Lament are adjectives to describe A Minor. But in terms of the pitch, what qualities makes it so? In my opinion, it is rather interesting to consider the diatonic chords (chords build on diatonic notes) and their functions.

On the one side, C Major (III) represents calm and flowing, F Major (VI) represents passion and slightly emotional, G Major (VII) represents a lively and childish manner. On the other hand, chords like D Minor (iv) representing a mild crisis, controversies, and an emotional episode (Such as Dance In The Dark) and E Major/Minor (V/v) giving it the suspense before returning back to A Minor (hence the V -> I Cadence mentioned several days ago). Which, the key of A Minor is consists of various chords with different properties, and therefore making the key able to induce contrasts of emotions and feelings. Does it create the awe? Personally believes that major keys like A Major (The Edge of Glory) and E Major (Eh Eh, Nothing Else I Can Say) would do the job better than A Minor, but it really depends on subjective feelings. 

Compositions from Mother Monster, such as Bad Romance, Monster, and Electric Chapel are all in the key of A Minor.

Obviously and as expected, this question wasn't answered. But I still believe that this question is worth pondering.

Woahhhh!! Lady Starlight is gonna do the opening acts starting tonight for the BTWBall Oceania legs and on. Near the middle of April 2012, Lady Starlight was confirmed to join the BTWBall.

Starlight says: "The Born This Way Ball is proof that dreams come true. The dream has never been to get famous and make money. My dream has been to have the ability to express myself in any way I want. Gaga has achieved this and wouldn't rest until she gave me the same opportunity. She is a true best friend. I was lucky enough to do the Monster Ball in 2010, and that was such a blast playing SLAYER and PANTERA to all the Little Monsters that now I'm coming back!"

Just from that mere interview, two things are apparent. First, it is obviously shown that Lady Starlight, even though my Mother Monster was able to achieved her status, Lady Starlight never alienate herself from Mother Monster. Meanwhile, though Mother Monster was up at her status, it was never forgotten that to provide Lady Starlight with chances of demonstrating her "ability to express myself in any way [she] wants". So, a pair of true best friends, the love between them, is definitely over gold.

GAGA FEMINISM: BTW

Yesterday, was a pleasure to participate the talk of "Low Theory and Gaga Feminism" presented by the renowned Professor Judith Halberstam. But what is Gaga Feminism?

Transcribing the content, it is stated that from the behaviour of the protesters at the Occupy LA and Occupy Wall Street, that the politics and its style had been modifying into a new style, so called shadow protesters, usually acting as a group, bearing the same paradigm, a collective nature.

In terms of feminism, the shadow feminism, which are not outspoken as frequent. However, shadow feminists are constantly questioning their status, whether they are able to have more choices as appear it should be. 


Finally, in terms of Mother Monster, Mother Monster is acting as a conveyor of such form of feminism, suggesting a state of cooperation, and not a competing nature. An example of such feminism was demonstrated in the duet with Yoko Ono, "The Sun is Down" (Linked above). Through the outburst style of performance, cacophony between the duet, and the dialogue between two different generations, one of the purpose was to destroy the paradigms before (classified as normal), and search for the new ones (end of normal). Through this process and the musical performance itself, Mother Monster was able to convey a new form of politics. 

An addition, Mother Monster is conveying her messages with her public identity, "Lady Gaga". The identity of "Lady Gaga" had evolved into an important part of the public, where everyone is able to get hold of her information and platforms. Ultimately, in order for one to experience or pursue the new form of politics, one, must "Go Gaga".

Which is quite a parallel with Mother Monster's platform on the relationship with Mother Monster's fans. Mother Monster stated that rather than treating Mother Monster as an distant idol for admiration, Mother Monster would every Lil Monster to have their own "Lady Gaga" in themselves, in order to support for what they think which might not confirm to social norms. "Born This Way", in this context, in my opinion, is actually a punch or an anthem of such movement. What left to be done, would be Lil Monsters incorporate their own "Lady Gaga" in themselves, in order to support what they are desired to do.

BAD "CADENCE"

Since Mother Monster is preparing for the BTWBall Oceania legs, I would like to introduce something that is relative to Mother Monster, yet in a deep and detailed domain.

Before I'm going to discuss this topic, I would like to first introduce the concepts of music composition, primarily the concept of "Cadence". To be concise and simple, Cadence is the harmonic chord progressions near the end of each phrase of a verse or a chorus. In general, Cadences are divided into several categories, Authentic, Half, Plague, and Deceptive. Examples are as follows...

Authentic Cadence: (Actual chord / Harmonic notation)

Though these are all popular cadences, the most frequently used cadences in Mother Monster songs, is the Plauge Cadance. Quoting Wikipedia,

To be honest, I am not quite sure if the so-called "Amen Cadences" are in relationship to some of Mother Monster's compositions that bear with a religious background. Examples are as follow again...

In the last example, the (E/IV) chord act as the sub-dominant chord of the relative key of B major, which is related to F# major. Therefore, in the key of B, (E/IV) -> (B/I) is a Plague Cadence itself. Along the composition, in the key of F#, (B/I) from B major would be considered as (B/IV) in F# major. Therefore, the (B/I)[B] -> (F#/I)[F#] can be written as (B/IV) -> (F#/I), which is also another Plague Cadence.

Coincidence? or just a composing technique? Despite anything, Plague cadences are generally with a "stronger" contrast between the chords in comparison to Authentic cadences. If we are speaking with the "Tense" of resolved-ness, then both Plague and Authentic cadences are well resolved at the end of the phrases.

However, if we are speaking on the "Tense" of the harmonic impact, related to its chordal modification intensity (the intensity of the subjective feeling of the audience that it's resolving, or the degree of unexpectedness during the harmonic resolve), Plague cadences are absolutely higher than Authentic cadences. This is because we, as audiences, expect Authentic cadence at the end of a phrase, which is the most case for most compositions from Baroque music to Contemporary music.

To an extent, Plague cadences are classified as amen (or church) cadences because of the unexpected nature in existence. In which, a degree of interest will develop and hence it creates a substantial amount of awe. Ultimately, the audience will be able to elaborate the awe in their experience and hence generate a strong feeling towards the composition itself. Therefore, it is, with purpose that, Mother Monster's compositions are suppose to relate to awe feelings, in order to have them stay in every Lil Monster's heart? Maybe, Maybe not. Regardless, I, as a Lil Monster, would always welcome this awe feeling because other compositions are incapable of providing it to me.

If the above relationship is valid (which must go through many scientific trials. If not, case studies should be conducted to validate the above), then, nothing to say much, Mother Monster will always be able to catch every Lil Monster's emotion by having emotional chrodal progressions, retro music arrangements, along with questionable, yet brilliant poetry.

FAME MONSTER: ARRIVAL

I am obsessed with limited stuff, whether they are intangible or tangible (I guess I'm not the only one that loves limited stuff? who doesn't, right?). By definition, limited stuff are stuff that are not massively copied or produced, and was never reprinted not re-manufactured up until present. So, except for it's exceptional collector's value and it might worth a while, the state of owning a limited piece reinforces your love on that domain, which obviously, you would buy limited things from a domain that you extremely like.

The first ever limited piece I bought was a parka by a crossover of Bathing Ape and Kaws. Not surprising, it was worth something back then, but then other versions, not the identical, was produced and it switched from a collector's piece into an ordinary parka. Which, I mean, at least it was limited and was popular back then. 

However, the Fame Monster Super Deluxe Edition here is obviously going to be a long-lasting collector's item.

BUT I'VE CHOSEN JUDAS!!!!!!

Indeed, regardless of the warning of the Philo government, in other words, not a single fuck was given to them, my Mother Monster performed "Judas" in the BTWBall in Manila. "I'm not a creature of your government, Manila. People need to be free to be who they are", this, is totally what we as Lil Monsters should act in accordance with in order to authentically be "ourselves". 

Mother Monster is always in the state of fighting rights and guiding us to search for Lil Monsters' identity. Some may say my Mother Monster violates this or that, if other countries allow my Mother Monster to do such a thing, why would your country consider it as a violation? is it the fact that your "honourable" country lacks what contemporary people want from a government? Should your government reflect on what your values are, or even consider searching for a democratic yet religious-open-minded framework? Whatever you do...

LADY JAJA!!!!!!!!!!!

Not quite free currently, due to reviewing "Lisa Goes Gaga". But I can surely talk about my The Simpsons experience from high school.

Never really attempted to watch The Simpsons purposely, usually I was watching it by surfing through the channels when I resided in Canada many years ago. The general experience The Simpsons gave me is that, the show itself is a parody and a ridicule to the United States society. But the fact that the episodes were frequent, which were able to relate to the current topics and trends, and I believed that this was what attracted many many North American audiences. 

P.S.: I had a dream last night, though it was kinda freaky....I went to my Mother Monster's concert and was hoping to visit her back stage, with my blue bandana (similar to the design my Mother Monster wore in Judas) as a present. I was lucky, and was picked to meet her backstage. Then I was uncontrollably kneeing down to my Mother Monster. The most strange, was that, my Mother Monster brought out a shot gun from the 50's and executed me by firing it to my head. Though it was as strange as it is, I would really like to search for the definition of this dream.

P.S. 2: I had finally heard the possible new song from my Mother Monster on Youtube. Believe it or not, and up to you to believe this, I had been composing a song, in my Mother Monster's style, for the Little Monsters where I am located now. Regardless of people doubting or criticizing what I am doing now, I believe that in order to present what I am thinking and feeling right now, as a Little Monster, it is the best to convey my messages by using a Electric yet Euro-pop styled song.

Obviously, Lil Monsters from the previous legs were still ruminating on my Mother Monster's unprecedented performance, and Lil Monsters from later legs are going to get ready for my Mother Monster's visit! In the situation of Taipei Lil Monsters, although most of them are busy preparing their make up and outfit for the BTWBall, some, are concerning with the BTWBall. The largest concern, as it was sharing all through Facebook, was the average price of the BTWBall tickets. For the most convenience, I will compare the prices with Hong Kong Dollars, as a result of my Hong Kong Chinkish nature. Let's use the price level, where this price level is able to admit one person into the field where it is the most close to my Mother Monster,

Yes, Taiwan Lil Monsters gotta pay more than twice as much as Hong Kong Lil Monsters. Though Taiwan Lil Monsters are concerning on this topic, up until now there are none of official responses distributed to reply this concern. Which is, in my opinion, reasonable.

First of all, ticketing and their prices would not be directly managed by my Mother Monster's herself. Every concert requires a profit range, in order for more concerts coming up in the future. Prices of the tickets should be considered as the effect of the various costs, of venue rent, equipment, human resource, etc.

Secondly, the BTWBall in Taipei was only planned for 1 show only, May 17th. It was then added 1 more show on the following day, I believe, at the end of March. If the organizer needs to ensure their profit range to be constant or more than their prediction, in the constrain of venue booking (which I suppose it would be very tight at the Nanhai Stadium), the ticket prices are obviously forced to set with a higher range.

But, a possible prediction, in future Balls or other concert events, if we assume that the organizer is obligated to monitor their profit range in constant or higher than the constant, it is able to predict how many added shows were proposed internally, by analyzing the price range of the tickets. How are we gonna do that? This leaves for your own research and analysis. So, "hey (sic), Nothing Else I Can Say~".

PURCHASING MY MO†HER MONS†ER

Yup! I was finally able to purchase my Mother Monster's The Fame Monster Super Deluxe Edition through Amazon.com

This was released on December 15th, 2009. Although it was an pretty old album, but the status, in terms of its importance, is not any lower than the new albums. 

Nothing really to say because, although the album is not on my hands, but my thrill stimulated me sharing it to the public and other Lil Monsters. But what am I looking forward to is that, to experience the "Lock of my Mother Monster's hair"... Not sure what will my reaction be...

MOTHER-MONSTEROUS COVER

By that I ain't talking about the first BTWBall last night in Japan (although it's trivial that it was also a Mother-Monsterous performance), it's rather the "Orange Colored Sky" my Mother Monster, performed at the Park Hyatt before the BTWBall.

Jazz, is not my field of interest in general. To me, they are compiled with complex chords, creepy melodies, crazy instruments (to me, guitar, no matter electric, classical, or acoustic, is the hardest instrument of all), and so on. But what I had witnessed was that, my Mother Monster's cover was not in lower quality than Nat King Cole's performance, which should be the standard of them all.

To be honest, analyzing lyrics from the 50's and 60's is a pain in the ass... but,

I was walking along minding my business
When love came and hit me in the eye
Flash, bam, alacazam,
Out of the orange colored sky 

I guess the lyrics say for themselves, especially by speaking out my attitudes and emotions since the first day I consider my Mother Monster as my Mother Monster.

A WISH COME TRUE

Reading updates from twitter and Facebook of the BTWBall from my Mother Monster is quite an irony. On one hand, I am able to get the immediate information of the BTWBall from my Mother Monster, which is extremely valuable for Little Monsters. On the other hand, since I wasn't able to attend the BTWBall in Hong Kong, reading my Mother Monster's updates brought me depressive episodes.

Especially, the image that I had to walk through hundreds of people, in the opposite direction, to the subway station. Where the hundreds of people are gaily, waiting for Mother Monster to reveal her exceptional stage performance, I had to turn on my "Poker Face" mode, by hiding my griefs and tears behind my face, and with sorrowful footsteps, reluctantly walking towards the subway gates.

A wish come true, would obviously be, granting me with a chance of lining up, becoming the first Little Monster, in the Monster Pit. If I was spared this chance, I am confident that I am able to become the first one to enter the Monster Pit.

Not sure if my Mother Monster is performing in North America in early 2013 or again in Hong Kong... if my Mother Monster does, then I will be granted with such chance, to reveal my Little Monstrous side, in front of your Mother-Monstrous performance...

I ♥ LADY GAY GAY

As it is obvious to everyone's eye, there are millions of Little Monsters, serving my Mother Monster worldwide. That's to say, my Mother Monster is capable of influencing millions of people in the world, including me. Such "powerful" figure, if misuses his or her power, for instance, influencing his or her followers to commit immoral acts, would be a definite harm for the society. In turn, Mother Monster utilizes her "power" to support unfortunate individuals. For instance, natural disasters like earthquake, HIV and AIDS support, and others, need not be stated because they are trivial. In particular, my Mother Monster's indestructible status within the homosexual community greatly attracted my interest of examining the "power" my Mother Monster has.

My Mother Monster, from her public speeches, responses to media questions, and interviews, had never attempted to avoid stating her positive and thankful attitude on homosexuality. Even from her compositions, "Poker Face" and "Alejandro", promoted the admiration of the homosexual community. Many places in the world undervalue the rights homosexual and bisexual community deserve long time ago. By utilizing her "power" in a positive way, my Mother Monster successfully made the LGBT community gaining large amount of social awareness, and should not be discriminated from the society.

In my point of view, homosexuals are not actually what people think they are; that's to say, our society, because of its discriminative attitude towards homosexuals, greatly undervalue the rights and voices of homosexuals. Everyone, believe it or not, should have both a female and a male side of their personality. From Sexual Psychology literature, the physical gender should be treated separately from their psychological gender. One can have a male body, but with a psychological gender of female, or even a blend of both gender in the psychological aspect if one decides to. However, due to social roles and norms, one is often influenced to converge their psychological gender with their physical gender. As a homosexual and bisexual advocate, my Mother Monster was able to disregard the social norms, and admitted that, she was a lesbian during the BTW Ball. Whether or not my Mother Monster was answering this question with the peripheral route due to her high cognitive load and stress caused by depressive events, the simple courage to accept such question and admitting it without hesitation deserves everyone's admiration, again, including me as a Little Monster not a while ago.

At the end, one would ask, why is this matter important for me? There is a typical answer and an authentic answer to this question. The typical answer, obviously, it is because everyone in this world is equal and each of them deserves their rights! I wouldn't use the above answer because it is over-altruistic doesn't completely justify one's basic attitude, the selfishness.

The authentic answer to the above question is able to incorporate the selfishness, in which it would be more authentic. Such that, the concern of homosexual and bisexual community is important because, one would never know when, where, with what influence, that he or she will have their psychological gender tilted to the other side, or resulting as a balance between both sides. If it actually happened on some day in the future, no one would be regretful and feel shameful of violating the stubborn social norms and enjoy their social and sexual life as an ordinary individual would, yet with a brand new domain of experiences.

BORN THIS WAY

Yesterday was surely a remarking day for most people. Some had their first ever concert experience in their life, some had their first trip to the Asia WorldExpo, some had their first experience enjoying the famed Mother Monster. The most unfortunate, I was not able to experience any of the above. The experience I had yesterday, was rather more complex and valuable than any of the above: Unleashing my lust of becoming, a Little Monster.

Anyone would think, how hard would it be to become a Little Monster? Just by purchasing records, buying BTW Ball posters or key chains, memorizing the lyrics of "Scheiße", or even grinding a tattoo behind your ass would make you a Little Monster? These should rather be the "Effects" of becoming a Little Monster, and not the "Causes" of becoming one. 

I had a virtual contact with Mother Monster in between late 2009 and early 2010 through a television channel, when the MV version of "Bad Romance" aired. Undeniably, "Bad Romance" is one of her remarking early singles. However, I wasn't attracted by her music at that point of time. To be honest, up until today, I had never purchase any records, posters, or any other merchandises under the label of my Mother Monster. It was Mother Monster's distinctive, outstanding, and dauntless physical appearance, that caught my unconsciousness and magnetized it towards my Mother Monster. 

Yes, from then, I had been collecting pieces from Alexander McQueen and Gareth Pugh. The first question I asked myself after I purchased those pieces from Lane Crawford and Gareth Pugh, why the fuck on earth would I ever buy them? I won't be able to wear these stuff when I am out on the street cause it's so outstanding...surprisingly, my answer to my own question was that, very simple, "it's me". 

Concluding with this experience, I have no negative attitudes to other Little Monsters for buying records, posters, memorizing lyrics. I have had feelings that I would also be committed to these after today. But just to point out, every single Little Monster had their valuable personal experience with their road of becoming one. What I would like to stress was that, my own pathway of becoming a Little Monster was not as physical, materialistic and conscious in comparison to others, but rather an unconscious influence in the first place.

In between early 2010 and several days ago, I had absolutely no conscious awareness or desire of watching the BTW Ball or any conscious attitudes towards Mother Monster. Last Saturday, it was the critical point of unleashing my rage and lust. Immediately after it was announced that Mother Monster had already left the hotel, then suddenly a roar, exclaiming "WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE?". Whole field of Little Monsters, media individuals, and hotel executives attempted to search for the voice. I admitted that it was a Displacement on the fact that Mother Monster left without receiving our greetings. As a reflection of this Displacement, I finally consciously realized that I do care about where Mother Monster was. Did it made me a Little Monster, or does it matter if I classify myself as a Little Monster after I had realize that Mother Monster is important in my life? I believe that a title such as "Little Monster" was not capable to illustrate how Mother Monster influenced my life, first in the level of unconsciousness, and several days ago on the consciousness. 

After having my unconsciousness overflowing into my consciousness, I was trying my best to get hold of any chances of attending Mother Monster's concert on May 7th, 2012. However, due to the corrupted nature of people taking advantage of Mother Monster's tickets, I was not able to attend the concert, and ruminating episodes of catastrophe during the bus trip back home. Maybe there were higher-order creatures, leading me to a more valuable experience in the future? Who knows!

From today on, as a Little Monster (for the convenience of classification), I shall value the chance of being so and securing my connections, from virtual to physical, hopefully, with my brand new admirable figure, my Mother Monster. At the end, who cares if we are "Born This Way", as long as "Yoü and I" are for life...
